ok joel brought his UBER FREAKING COOL LAPTOP to school. ok, it shouldn't be considered a laptop even, more like a lapcrusher. really. its freaking nice, but huge but still freaking nice. i mean, i can fall in love with his com just like simin falls in love with jj or kelly with cristiano. While I'm relatively neutral to the actual outcome of any anthem change, I figured I'd probably have to play devil's advocate and speak up for those who might otherwise remain silent.

To the VS boys in VJC or those who're on this blog: have you *seriously* considered (to paraphrase the title of a Madonna song) "what it feels like for a girl"? One could, conceivably, laugh the matter off as political correctness gone overboard, or cite dictionary definitions of "son" that 'prove' that the word refers to both genders.

Yet the point of the whole feminist campaign against discrimination in language is that language shapes our social reality. The popular example usually raised in these discussions (on how much we are 'determined' by language) is how there are many more words for 'snow' in the Innuit/Eskimo language, and how Middle Eastern languages tend to have more words for 'sand', as compared to English. The words that we have shape how we see the world.

Which brings me to my point that, if VJC girls are perhaps that little bit less enthusiastic about showing their support for the school, can you blame them? In little but real ways like these, people are made to feel less than welcome. One response we got from a recent school survey conducted went: "The school song is a boy's school song. I wish I could change that."

The argument from tradition doesn't hold that much water, by my reckoning. By way of analogy: slavery's existed for eons - does that justify it or make it morally right in any way, just because it's been around?

This is not to say that traditions aren't important, that we should just change them upon every passing whim and fancy. But I think we should be open to the possibility of change, rather than automatically resist it out of an unqualified devotion to the past.

"Victoria, we belong to thee" would get my vote, I think. :)

so, really, do any of you feel the same way, i.e. the school song comes from a boy's school and i dont like the notion of it? and because of that, i dont feel like being as enthu as the guys in participating in school events, ect. hahaha just wondering, because, if it were me, i don't have any problem with the school song if it had it's origins from a girls school.
and futhermore, wouldn't you think it a little shallow that creating a new school song just for the purpose would make vj more politically correct and would otherwise push for equality between genders?

gah... our blog is dying. actually mabe thats cus we are so sianded of school now?

lol time is passing really very fast now...

when we were in primary school we had time to watch soccer. that = frigging alot of free time. going home at 1 or earlier, and almost no extra lessons, cca is not compulsary and nor required.

in secondary school, time sped up quite some, lower sec we went back home at 2 on cca less days, remedial have yet to start. cca days may end up stretching to 5, 6 or even later. upper secondary people end school at 2 still, but end up going home at 4-5. and we were thinking why school end so late. gah!

jc now, we are ending school at 2-3 on a early day, 4-5 on a later day. but going home at 6-7 is no big deal, happens very often (as with injuries) and we are still, or should i say, already on the 3rd month of our year

haha today is zhan yi's birthday! ahaha like my blog said, we were spaying mayonese all over him
omg poor zhanyi. having to be crowned with mayonese on your birthday. ahahaha, but that was pretty good already, considering what we had in mind before! we were thinking of usiing the ketsup/chili plastic bottles

and filling it up with mayonese
